These exhibitions will be curated by a group of curators or an individual curator, creating an authentic and site-specific project. The Zuiderzee area encompasses diverse tangible and intangible cultural heritage, which forms the foundation of its identity, illustrating the area's story throughout history. Preserving and passing on this heritage is crucial, as it defines who we are, our origins, and our values, allowing for self-understanding and fostering connections with others. The area's character is shaped by various historical elements, such as maps, homes, villages, landscapes, and water-related structures, all contributing to its unique identity. By emphasizing the Zuiderzee narrative and utilizing heritage as a foundation, we can enhance resident engagement, attract visitors, and unlock the area's economic potential on an international scale.
Heritage serves as inspiration for future developments and fosters a sense of connection. Highlighting local heritage through an exhibition featuring international and national artists creates an alluring route, facilitating accessibility to art, fostering interactions, and fostering bonds among artists and visitors. As visitors encounter forts, churches, farms, pumping stations, and monuments while experiencing site-specific artwork, it sparks contemplation on the area's history and future, reinvigorating the region and creating new historical narratives.
The Art Zuiderzee Route will take place in the summer, lasts 80 days and is 408 km long.
