The Art Zuiderzee Route map consists of a Thijsse e-Cycling Route and a Havard Sailing Route.

Henry Havard. Historian and writer.

The Havard Sailing Route is based on the book 'Picturesque journey along the dead cities of the Zuiderzee' by the French cultural historian Henry Havard, who made a sailing trip across the Zuiderzee in the summer of 1873 in a tjalk.

In the summer of 2022, historian and writer Ronald Nijboer sailed the same route plus new land as research for his forthcoming book.

Jac. P. Thijsse. Biologist and writer.

The Thijsse e-Cycling Route is based on the book 'Langs de Zuiderzee' by biologist and Natuurmonumenten founder Jac. P. Thijsse, who walked and cycled along the Zuiderzee in the summer of 1912, together with the artists Wenckebach, Voerman and Edzard Koning, who painted and illustrated during the journey. Koning lived near the beach in Nunspeet, an art colony at the time.

In the summer of 2022, Hart cycled the same route plus part of the new land and photographed the same locations 'now and then' as research for Art Zuiderzee: 'Une mer à boire. In the summer of 2023 she will cycle the larger route.

STORY

The first Art Zuiderzee Route will take place in the summer from 21 June to 8 September 2024, lasts 80 days and is 408 km long.

Art Zuiderzee is a summer art route and shows international and national site-specific visual art in or around cultural heritage that is part of the Zuiderzee area. Art Zuiderzee consists of (e)bicycle and sailing routes and connects everything in and around the Zuiderzee area.

The Art Zuiderzee Visitor experiences the diversity and richness of this area in the past and present through art, cultural heritage and the environment.
